Crickets (Rhaphidophoridae)
How bad can Crickets be?
Most people are unaware that there are two types of crickets in our area. The neat looking cricket you see on the Disney channel and then there is this gross looking, prehistoric-looking freak they call a "Camel Cricket" or "Cave Cricket".
Jimmy the Cricket, the one that looks like the Disney character is a "Field Cricket" and is most often seasonal and in most cases easy to control.
The ugly freak Camel Cricket is a problem and more difficult to control.
Outside - Camel Crickets are usually found in woodpiles, mulch, or even in wells. If they make their way into a home, they will find places similar spots such as utility rooms, damp basements, your garage, or even crawl spaces.
Though they don’t pose any health threats to people, once they make their way into your home, they have a habit of eating fabrics including curtains and clothing. They've also been reported munching on clothing hung outside to dry.
However, dead Camel Crickets have been known to pollute wells and create an unpleasant odor if not disposed of quickly. This could possibly attract other pests and cause a larger infestation.
